The power of apple cider

I drank apple cider today
the blood of the apple
pressed in the withdrawing of life
like that last of it
the final
vital drop
before silence
and cold
before energy
and it tasted like youth and home
and family and reminded me
of wood fires
and school days and dry and colored leaves
and the breath of fall
and the changing of the seasons
and life

Yesterday, I too tasted apple cider and instantly thought of Jericho and a wood stove and cinnamon sticks boiling in a red pot on the stove. Man those were fun times - no worries, lots of play and the simple things.
