Turning back

We have fought so long and hard
and shed blood and tears
to put ourselves high
above nature.

As if the great magnet could release
it's hold.
As if our understanding
is enough.

But no!

We drive on, convinced
that the earth, the soil
is something less than us
to be only trod upon.
That we, the greatest
should steal our mothers key
from under her pillow.

And today we look around, confused
by what we have become.

We do not understand .
And still we make our choices.
We do not understand.
And still we make our choices

And in the darkness
we plead and hope for light
instead of returning
from whence we came
to choose another path.
